Cobh V Charleville "Non-Exam League" 2015-06-03 15:39:00

Cobh V Charleville "Non-Exam League"

On Sunday at 12 noon our minors had their second “non-exam” game. Again we welcomed Premier level opposition who made the long trip from Charleville.

Early scores were all in Charleville favour, as we simply did not mark tightly enough, and Charleville made use of the space with some impressive play. We had the wind, but Charleville had all the early scores, and things looked ominous for Cobh, until Edward Lane raised the green flag with Cobh’s first opportunity to get us on the scoreboard. By half time Charleville had scored 1-12, but we were still in the game, having managed 2-4 (with Ciaran Leahy getting 1-3 of this).

The second half saw a much more focused performance from our minors as we tightened up on the marking, and began to demonstrate our ability. Steady progress saw us close the 5 point deficit, and we took a one point lead (Cobh 4-8, Charleville 1-16). Charleville levelled the game almost immediately, and there followed a few minutes where the game was really in the balance. We were struggling to deal exhaustion, and with an accumulation of injuries during the game, and Charleville exploited a moment of lost concentration, and they pounced to get a goal. The last score was also to be for Charleville as they pointed a close in free, in the final seconds.

Final score Cobh 4-8, Charleville 2-18, a four point win for Charleville.

Remaining games in the “non-exam” league are Friday 5th June away to Bride Rovers, Tuesday 9th home to Banteer, and Friday 12th away to Aghada.

Our final Football “non-exam” game is Tuesday 2nd June away to Mitchelstown
